Cooperation with others is indispensable in human society. However, it has not been clarified by what mechanism the behaviors of oneself and others interact and are coordinated in order to facilitate cooperative actions with others.

Focusing on the possibility that "sharing of purpose" influences the prediction process based on the observation of the behavior of oneself and others and facilitates cooperative movements in recent theoretical research, this time, Dr. Kio University Graduate School Kazuki Hayashida and Shu Morioka in the second semester examined this possibility from the perspective of a sense of independence. The sense of subjectivity refers to the feeling that a certain action and the results associated with it belong to oneself, and since the prediction process strongly influences the triggering, it is possible that the sense of subjectivity may be modulated by sharing the purpose.

In the experiment, participants were randomly divided into a pair of two people who shared the purpose (2 pairs of the cooperative group) and a pair of two people who did not share the purpose (1 pairs of the independent group), and had them perform the same exercise task. , The accuracy of the movement and the sense of independence of the action were compared. As a result, in the cooperative group, the sense of subjectivity was amplified in both the self-generated act and the task of observing the behavior of others, as compared with the independent group.Furthermore, the movement accuracy of the task was higher in the cooperation group.

In other words, this study revealed that shared purpose improves the accuracy of movement and amplifies the sense of subjectivity in comparison with non-shared purpose. It can be said that it was suggested that the sense of subjectivity may be altered by sharing the purpose with others, and it is expected that this result will help elucidate the process of attribution and transformation of social action results in the future.
