A research group of Associate Professor Etsuko Yamaguchi and Graduate Student Inada of Osaka Metropolitan University Graduate School of Medicine evaluated papers on improving the quality of medical care in pediatric intensive care rooms, and although the number of papers published has increased. , I found that the quality of research reports is not always high.

According to Osaka City University, the research group searched for papers on improving the quality of medical care in the pediatric intensive care unit and scored and evaluated 158 papers.

As a result, the number of papers, which was less than 2010 per year until 5, has increased to more than 20 recently, but only 17% of the papers were evaluated as high quality. We also found that only 5% of the papers cited guidelines for reporting quality improvement studies.

This is the first time that the status of medical quality improvement research conducted in the pediatric intensive care unit and the quality of papers have been clarified.Japan has become world-famous for its continuous quality improvement in the manufacturing field, but since there are few studies originating in Japan related to the pediatric intensive care unit, improving the quality of medical care in the Japanese pediatric intensive care unit. It was suggested that the study was not widespread.

The research group hopes that this announcement will draw attention to improving the quality of medical care in the pediatric intensive care unit, and that the practice will be further advanced.
