A research group led by Assistant Professor Tetsuo Maeda of the Department of Medicine, Kanazawa University Medical and Health Research Area has two databases on out-of-hospital cardiac arrest that occurred in Ishikawa Prefecture from 2012 to 2014. It was clarified that the use of the drug improves the survival rate of patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

Calls from mobile phones may lead to fire departments outside the jurisdiction, which has the disadvantage that the time from the call to the arrival of the ambulance at the site is delayed compared to landlines, and it is easier to make calls from the patient's side than landlines. Therefore, it has been considered that the dispatcher can easily obtain accurate information on the patient and can provide more accurate and appropriate oral guidance.

The research group included 2012 patients who were given oral guidance and were taken to the hospital from a database of 2014-reported victims collected by the fire department in Ishikawa Prefecture between 119 and 2,530, as well as out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients. Excluding cases witnessed by rescuers, 2,980 cases were extracted. These two data were integrated and compared and analyzed between the mobile phone report group and the fixed line report group.

As a result, among out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients who had CPR by citizens, the one-month survival rate of patients reported by landline was 1%, while that of patients reported by mobile phone was as high as 4.3%. Became clear. In addition, the frequency of reports from the immediate vicinity of patients is 9.1% from landlines, 17.2% from mobile phones, and the rate of high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation by citizens is 52.7% from landlines, compared to 45.0% from mobile phones. It became significantly higher.

From this research, until now, social activities aimed at improving the lifesaving rate of patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest have mainly focused on the spread of AEDs and lifesaving treatment classes for citizens, but from now on, they will be proactive in making emergency calls. It was found that promoting the use of mobile phones through public relations is also effective in improving the survival rate of patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

The research results were published in the online version of the medical journal "Resuscitation" of the European Resuscitation Council on August 2016, 8 (UK standard time).
