Kumamoto University and Rohto Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. have verified the effect of Goreisan (containing Soujutsu) on "weather headache", which is a kind of Chinese herbal medicine. It was clarified that the effect is exhibited by a different mechanism of action.
Headaches caused by changes in the weather (atmospheric pressure) are called "weather headaches" and are generally treated by prescribing analgesics.In this joint research, a new test of a weather headache model in which the normal air pressure is observed for 1 hour, the air pressure is lowered by -50 hPa for 1 hour, and the air pressure is returned to the normal pressure for 1 hour after the drug is administered in a room where the air pressure can be adjusted. By measuring changes in cerebral blood flow in the system, the effects of Goreisan (with Sojutsu) and Loxoprofen were compared and verified.
As a result, it was found that the cerebral blood flow increased when the atmospheric pressure was lowered, but the increase in the cerebral blood flow was suppressed when Goreisan (containing Soujutsu) and loxoprofen were administered respectively.In addition, even if the atmospheric pressure is lowered and then returned to the normal atmospheric pressure, the original cerebral blood flow does not decrease or recover without administration, but when Goreisan (containing Soujutsu) is administered, the original normal atmospheric pressure is applied. It was found that the cerebral blood flow decreased and recovered.On the other hand, with loxoprofen administration, even if the atmospheric pressure was returned to normal, the original cerebral blood flow did not decrease or recover as in the case without administration.
For this reason, Goreisan (containing Soujutsu) has a different mechanism of action from loxoprofen in that it reduces cerebral blood flow, and it is effective for weather headaches by suppressing the effect of atmospheric pressure changes on cerebral blood flow. It was suggested that it would be exerted.
Goreisan (containing Soujutsu) is expected to be used in the future as a new coping method that will lead people suffering from weather headaches to a constitution that can withstand changes in atmospheric pressure.
