Kyoto University has begun collaborating with Accenture, a comprehensive consulting firm based in Dublin, Ireland, to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) to solve social issues. In the future, the Kyoto University Social Innovation Center and Accenture AI Center will jointly develop an AI model that will contribute to the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) promoted by the United Nations.
According to Accenture, the first joint research is the development of an AI model that combines various meteorological information and earth observation data with advanced AI technology to refine risk information such as hazard maps and strengthen the ability of society to respond to natural disasters.
In addition, we will seek to build a new mechanism to reduce business damage to the solar surface explosion phenomenon and cosmic radiation, which are said to cause losses of up to 200 trillion yen due to large-scale power outages and damage to artificial satellites.Furthermore, the reduction of the environmental load of companies against medium- to long-term climate change will also be considered for joint research.
For joint research, Accenture's AI experts will participate in the project as researchers at Kyoto University, and the exchange of human resources between the two will begin.Accenture's AI Human Resources Development Program will be offered to undergraduate, graduate, and researchers at Kyoto University from June to enable data-based decision making. The program is planned to continue for 6 years after 2022.
