A research group led by Professor Renki Kobayashi of the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Medicine scrutinized the large-scale data on medical fee billing statements (receipt), and found that it is recommended to visit the diabetic patients who are undergoing continuous treatment once a year. It was revealed that the consultation rate for retinopathy tests was only 1%.The figures are lower than those reported in Europe and the United States, and the research group believes that it is necessary to create an environment that makes it easier for workers to receive medical examinations.

From April 2010 to March 4, the research group analyzed the receipt data of about 2012 health insurance members under the jurisdiction of multiple unions, and 3 people who continued to receive diabetes treatment in 57. The implementation rate of various tests recommended by the treatment continuation status and diabetes clinical practice guidelines for the following year was calculated.

It found that 6.4% of patients discontinued treatment the following year. The hemoglobin AC one-sea test and blood lipid test, which measure blood glucose levels among patients who continued to receive medical examinations, were high at 95.8% and 90.6%, respectively, while the diabetic retinopathy test was performed at 35.6%. The urinary microalpmin test used to detect diabetic retinopathy had a fairly low consultation rate of 15.4%.The low rate of examinations was often seen in men and working groups. In particular, the current situation in which working people in their 20s to 50s cannot secure consultation time has emerged as a problem.

Diabetes is estimated to affect 15.5% of men and 9.8% of women in Japan, and is the leading cause of blindness and the introduction of dialysis. Therefore, appropriate medical care and prevention of complications are urgent issues.
