Okayama University of Science announced that it will open an "IB teacher training course" in 2017 to train teachers who will be teaching at high schools that have introduced the international education program "International Baccalaureate (IB)".This is the first time in Japan that this course has been set up in a university faculty.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) is an international educational program provided by the International Baccalaureate Organization (Headquarters Geneva). Established in 1968 as a comprehensive educational program with the aim of fostering students who can understand and deal with the complexity of the world and to grant internationally accepted university entrance qualifications (International Baccalaureate qualifications). As of August 2016, 8, it has been implemented at 1 schools in more than 140 countries and regions around the world.
The number of high schools that have introduced the International Baccalaureate in Japan is increasing because they can qualify for admission to leading universities in Japan and overseas. The contract was signed on August 2016, 8.
Okayama University of Science trains IB teachers equivalent to Japanese high school teachers, and the target is about 2017 students who wish to obtain a high school teacher's license (mathematics / science) among the enrollees from 20 onwards.Students can be certified as an IB faculty member (DP) by taking the necessary lectures and practical training in the 2nd to 4th years while studying in each faculty and earning 8 to 12 credits.
Currently, only Tamagawa University Graduate School has a training course for IB teachers in Japan, but in 2017, in addition to Okayama University of Science, Tsukuba University Graduate School and Tsuru University of Science are scheduled to open.
