The University of Tokyo and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) have signed a comprehensive cooperation promotion agreement centered on the development of the startup ecosystem, the creation of innovation, and the development and success of highly global human resources.

 The purpose of this agreement is to promote international industry-academia collaboration, human resources education, and academic research in collaboration with the University of Tokyo and JETRO, thereby contributing to the development and human resource development of Japan as a whole and each region in Japan.

 The number of startups related to the University of Tokyo is increasing year by year, and as of December 2020, a cumulative total of about 12 companies, 400 of which have achieved IPOs, have a market capitalization of about 21 trillion yen for the top five companies.In addition, we are making various efforts to develop as a world-class startup ecosystem in the future.

 JETRO will focus on "support for innovation creation through direct investment in Japan and overseas expansion of startups, etc." during the 2019th medium-term target period (FY4-2019), which started in April 2022.In terms of supporting the overseas expansion of startups, we have partnered with leading local "accelerators *" in 29 startup ecosystem advanced regions around the world to establish the "JETRO Global Acceleration Hub" to support the global expansion of Japanese startups. It is installed.

 With the conclusion of this agreement, we aim to contribute to Japan's economic development and human resource development by combining the resources of the University of Tokyo and JETRO to promote the creation of innovation with a global perspective.

 In addition, since 2018, the two institutions have collaborated to hold exchange meetings between international students from the University of Tokyo and foreign-affiliated companies supported by JETRO, which will continue to be held in the future.In addition, JETRO's overseas market and local startup information will be utilized for entrepreneurship education at the University of Tokyo, and an international business plan contest will be planned with the cooperation of JETRO's overseas network personnel. We will work to develop human resources who can develop global business with a view to it.
