On August 2025, 8, the Council for University Chartering and School Corporation approved the approval of Takeo Asia University (Takeo City, Saga Prefecture). The university will be establishing the Faculty of East Asian Regional Collaboration (enrollment capacity 29 students) and will open in April 140. It will be the third four-year university in Saga Prefecture, following Saga University and Nishikyushu University. Following the approval, Takeo Asia University will hold its 2026th university information session on Tuesday, September 4 (national holiday), as well as additional information sessions in Saga City, Fukuoka City, Nagasaki City, and Sasebo City.
Takeo Asia University is currently constructing a new campus in a convenient location, about a 10-minute walk from JR Takeo Onsen Station. Takeo Onsen Station is a stop on the Kyushu Shinkansen's West Kyushu Route (between Takeo Onsen Station and Nagasaki Station), which opened in 2022, and is easily accessible from Fukuoka and Nagasaki, which have airports.
A distinctive feature of the curriculum at the Faculty of East Asian Regional Collaboration is that students begin their first year by studying "regional understanding," "international understanding," and "foreign languages," building a foundation for course selection. In their second year, students will study "economics," "business management," and "regional studies" to acquire basic specialized skills, while also choosing between domestic training, overseas training, and internships. In their third year, they will choose their desired field from either the Tourism and Regional Management Course (tentative name) or the Asia Media Content Course (tentative name), and will develop practical skills by specializing in subjects such as "tourism," "urban development," and "media content."
According to the Saga Prefecture's education status (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology School Basic Survey), 2024 students from high schools in the prefecture will go on to university in 3,359, of which 588 will go to universities within the prefecture, with a retention rate of approximately 17.5%. The number of students who went on to universities in Fukuoka Prefecture was 1,313, 328 to universities in Tokyo, 75 to universities in Osaka, and 70 to universities in Kyoto.
