Nanzan University (Showa-ku, Nagoya) announced on March 31, 2026, that it will be changing the scope of the entrance examination for the 2028 academic year. Specifically, the subject "Science" in the general entrance examination for the Faculty of Science and Engineering will be changed to "Science and Information." "Information I" will be added as an elective subject.
Nanzan University has three types of general entrance examinations: "General Entrance Examination," "University-wide Unified Entrance Examination," and "Entrance Examination using the Common Test." Of these, the general entrance examination for the Faculty of Science and Engineering currently requires students to take three subjects: mathematics, science, and foreign language. However, from the 2028 academic year entrance examination, the subjects will be changed to mathematics, foreign language, and "science/information," and the elective subjects will be expanded to include "Information I" in addition to "Basic Physics and Physics" and "Basic Chemistry and Chemistry."
In the university-wide unified entrance examination, "Individual Academic Ability Test Type (Science Stream Selection)," "Science and Information Technology" will be introduced from the 2025 academic year, with "Information Technology I" as an elective subject. The exam will be 60 minutes long, and students will choose to answer each major question from "Basic Physics, Physics," "Basic Chemistry, Chemistry," and "Information Technology I." From the 2028 academic year entrance examination, "Basic Chemistry, Chemistry" will be removed, leaving only "Basic Physics, Physics" and "Information Technology I."
For the 2027 entrance examinations, there will be no change in the scope of the questions, but for humanities faculties taking the "General Entrance Examination," applicants will be able to freely choose their examination date from four days (February 9th to 12th, 2027). For the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the examination date will be February 10th, 2027, and the "Second Choice System" will be implemented as in the 2026 entrance examinations. The university-wide unified entrance examination will be held over two days, February 6th and 7th, 2027, with an expanded examination period to make it easier for applicants to take the exam.
