Shibaura Institute of Technology has signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture, where its Omiya campus is located. The agreement aims to leverage the university's expertise to promote collaboration within Saitama City, contributing to the formation and development of a vibrant and unique local community, as well as the advancement of academic research, while responding quickly and appropriately to regional challenges.
Shibaura Institute of Technology and Saitama City signed a cooperation agreement on innovation in April 2015 and an agreement on the use of facilities as evacuation sites in the event of a disaster in January 2021. In addition, they were certified as a joint proposer of the Ministry of the Environment's "Decarbonization Leading Region" in April 2022, and signed an SDGs cooperation agreement in July 2023. Furthermore, in March 2024, they exchanged a memorandum of understanding with Saitama City and Omiya Ardija regarding joint industry-academia-government research in the fields of medical care, healthcare, and sports.
Through these collaborations, we have conducted joint research on the physical and mental effects of esports, co-hosted the "Student Policy Proposal Forum in Saitama," and conducted research with RB Omiya Ardija WOMEN on injury prevention common among female athletes.
Shibaura Institute of Technology is undergoing redevelopment as a campus open to the community, including the construction of a new building, the "Innovation Building," in December 2025, which will house research facilities, a regional health promotion center, and e-sports facilities. This agreement will serve as an opportunity to collaborate in a wide range of fields, including industry and economy, sports and arts and culture, health and welfare, disaster prevention and safety, urban development, education and childcare, zero carbon initiatives, tourism and city promotion, and agriculture and local production and consumption.
Specifically, we plan to develop a wide range of collaborations, including manufacturing support and educational support, such as the partnership between the newly established "Sports Engineering Course" in April 2026 and the sports tech demonstration project, and the partnership between the Regional Health Promotion Center and Saitama City's policies.
