Kyoto Seika University plans to establish a distance learning program, the "Department of Creative Information (tentative name, currently in the planning stages) within the Faculty of Creative Information," in April 2028, coinciding with its 60th anniversary. The university plans to submit an application for establishment approval in January 2027.
While digital technologies, including generative AI, are rapidly evolving and fundamentally changing the way society functions, challenges surrounding the "relationship between humans and technology" are also becoming apparent, such as information disparities due to technological proficiency and usage environments, increasingly complex service designs, and communication breakdowns.
In this era, the Faculty of Creative Information (tentative name) will, with the concept of "Creating a gentle world through digital technology and expression," not only "cultivating technology" but also emphasizing "how to deliver that technology to people" and "what kind of experience to design." The aim is to cultivate individuals who can implement technology into society, not just people who can handle technology, but people who think about "what to create and for whom," while being attentive to the feelings and experiences of the users.
The curriculum is based on information engineering, but also encompasses education that includes designing expressions and experiences that resonate with people. In addition to information engineering fields such as AI, programming, data science, and cloud computing, students learn across creative fields unique to Kyoto Seika University, such as games, web design, 3D animation, and manga expression.
The planned enrollment capacity is 150 students for the first year and 50 students for the third year (total capacity of 700 students). Enrollment periods are spring (April) and fall (October). The planned annual tuition fee is 420,000 yen. Please note that the establishment plan described is tentative and may change after further consideration.
