Listening to music is a daily routine for students.But how many students are aware of that music as one of their economic activities?How much money is moving, such as listening on a smartphone, subscribing to a subscription, buying CDs and goods, going to a concert, etc., and how is the entertainment of music created and enjoyed in the world?The purpose of this seminar is to experience and learn the music that we come into contact with every day as a big economic activity.
To that end, Edogawa University has been holding a fashion show called the Edogawa Girls Collection since 2010, but from 2019, Edogawa will add new musical elements to discover high school girl bands and solo high school singer-songwriters. Held as a girls award, it was a major project to produce the debut of the artist selected in the final selection of the band & solo audition.
It will be held as a trial in 2019, and in 2020, it will start in earnest!At that point, Corona raged.However, while taking measures against infection such as non-audience and streaming distribution, an audition was held, and a high school girl artist named SENA was selected from many applicants.
Of course, students alone cannot make an artist debut.With the help of professionals in each field, we created a debut program in the form of industry-academia collaboration, including music producers and record companies.I learned in a lecture where money would come in if Edogawa University produced and debuted, and what would happen to copyright and ultimately distribution to artists and record companies.I also made a budget for this project.For students who are new to thinking about music and money, let alone making a budget book, even if they make a budget for an audition, they just don't understand.I will make corrections with the advice of teachers and professionals again and again, finish the budget, raise funds from the university based on the budget, and finally write the financial statements and report the income and expenditure ..
Budgets and financial statements do not specifically evaluate CD sales, but students who are active in the music industry, management industry, and event industry appear as projects that are being carried out as part of the department's classes. The university thinks that it is a great educational effect.Of course, the success of this project remains the primary priority for both students and selected artists.
However, it is not easy to actually experience it.There are mountains and valleys on the way to debut, and various things happen.
"The song that was supposed to be released first suddenly changed, and the jacket picture also changed a lot ..." says Mr. Takanaka, who was in charge of the artwork.
The first song I planned to make into a single was "Tenohirano Snow Globe," a song that resonates with young people and has a lot of romantic and heavy lyrics.However, there was a question that it might not sound to a wider generation, so I decided to bring the song "magnet", which was coupled to side B during production, to side A. The entire music production team decided that "magnet" could be sympathized by all generations.Takahashi, who is the producer of the music production team, says, "I'm sorry for the other teams, but I think it's a good work, so I'm glad I changed it."
We researched similar songs released so far, and researched who has released, how much they are selling, and what kind of people are listening to songs that include the keywords "snow globe" and "magnet". Did.As a result, I came up with the answer that "magnets" are selling better, and hit it against the president of the record company and Mr. SENA himself, and the idea passed.Such a process can also be a professional field.
