Supporting and visualizing various other activities
I think everyone is interested in various social issues represented by the SDGs. The SDGs present the challenges we need to tackle to realize a sustainable society, such as the environment, poverty, conflict, education and food.We are required to take the initiative in taking on various challenges toward a sustainable future. In 2016, in the summer of the following year when the United Nations raised the SDGs, a student group called the Sustainable Week Executive Committee [Column] was established to work on solving problems toward the 17 achievement goals of the SDGs.We are engaged in sustainable activities involving local residents, businesses, and local governments.Supporting their activities is also the role of RIMIX in a broad sense.
"Beyond COVID-19", one of RIMIX's activities, has prepared an online community space based on the voice of students who "want to take some action" even though the real activities are restricted due to the corona virus. Is the beginning.Ritsumeikan Gakuen students, students, children, faculty and staff can launch projects and gather friends, and more than 80 projects have been launched.
We may have placed too much emphasis on teaching in the first place, seeing that students and high school students will actively participate if we provide opportunities and reliable places where we can do our best. I don't think I can. With this, students and students cannot surpass teachers. In order to get over it, it is indispensable to have an environment where we can work independently. Our role is to create an opportunity, and I think it is important to be close to them with an attitude of growing together, to give appropriate advice, and to support coordination with off-campus.
Originally, our university has a culture of peer learning where students learn and teach each other.A lot of excellent activities have been born from here, and I think it is one of the strengths of our university. The president's pitch this time also inherits that tradition in terms of encouraging participation as a team, and as the needs of the new era become more complex, each one discovers issues in their areas of expertise and works together. I think that is also very important in terms of research.
Future tasks
Further widen the base. Our university is a private university where about 35,000 students learn from each other, and RIMIX has a large number of students with a high awareness of problems.Looking at the university as a whole, some of them enter without knowing the SDGs.It may be difficult to ask all students to face social issues, but at least I would like them to share their awareness of their importance.
For that reason, it is becoming more and more important to appeal to "visualization of knowledge" and intellectual creation activities carried out inside the school, both inside and outside the school. If you don't know who, when, where, and what you're doing, you can't agree or be interested in it.
