Message to high school students

Sensitive to social issues. The liberal arts are the basics of data science, mathematics

Now that it is said to be a turbulent era where we cannot see ahead, there are many people who are having a hard time in the gap.Even if it is difficult for one person to do it, I would like everyone to have the mindset to work together to solve social issues.

Although it is related to my specialty, it may be said that AI, data science, and statistics are the topics of discussion, but anyone aiming for any field should have the minimum knowledge and literacy. I think it should be.Since we are in an era where we can analyze the huge amount of FACT in the world, we should use it to create new things and new value, and in fact, I think everyone has the opportunity. You don't have to do math because you are a liberal arts student, but you do it because you are a liberal arts student. If you don't do that, you won't understand AI and data science, and it's hard to start a venture.

Don't be afraid of conflicting opinions and enjoy an intellectual adventure.

Don't be afraid to collide with others. This is because there is no denial of personality or conflicting personalities. It is natural that each person has different opinions.I think it must be the same, so I will suffer and become hostile. So how do you overcome that difference? Try to find a way and a solution that holds both, rather than making concessions, in a dialectical way.It will surely lead to the discovery of new value. It's an intellectual adventure, and I don't think there's anything interesting in the world.

I think that it is not only in class but also in circles and club activities that trains the spirit of inquiry. It's about pursuing what you're interested in.In soccer, you can stick to PK and think of a way to never remove it, or you can pester the mystery of dribbling. For three years, the experience of working independently and hard for three years should foster an inquisitive mind and lead to self-confidence.

More freedom to challenge. If you make an effort on the spot, the road will open naturally.A little my episode

Gakuen Vision R2030 advocates "more freedom in taking on challenges."You will try to overcome the borders or restrictions that you do not notice in your heart. If there are too many restrictions on people and society, they will become rigid. Too much to say "must be like this" and "should be like this" makes me suffocate.Does the world need so many restrictions? Many of them are not made by themselves. Then, try removing it once, and why not try such a challenge?

Looking back on myself a little, after graduating from university and getting a job, as a graduate of psychology, I was involved in the development of a simulator that modeled evacuation behavior, while desperately acquiring specialized knowledge so that I could keep up with the conversations of researchers. I did. In my thirties, I studied abroad at Stanford University in the United States and was involved in research on artificial intelligence. While engaging in such research and managerial positions at companies, I was asked for a desire to "nurture people" as well as a desire for research.Around that time, Ritsumeikan University newly established the Faculty of Information Science and Technology. After 30 years of corporate life, I decided to take on the challenge of the next stage of university education and research. One thing I can say from my experience of being transformed several times is that if you do your best on the spot, the road will open up naturally. If you put yourself in a different environment, your consciousness and perspective may change.Don't be afraid to challenge.
