In April 2022, Toyo Gakuen University welcomed Yutaka Tsujinaka as the new president with the expiration of the term of office of Mr. Taro Aichi, who has been the president since 4.President Yutaka Tsujinaka has served as Vice President of University of Tsukuba and Vice President of Tokai University, and has been a director and councilor of Toyo Gakuen University since September 2021, and will be appointed this time.

Toyo Gakuen University was born in 1926 as an old vocational school for training female dentists in an era when women's social advancement was still difficult. We have endured the changing times and have cultivated human resources who can contribute to society while transforming ourselves.Currently, it has three faculties, one graduate school, the Faculty of Global Communication, the Faculty of Human Sciences, the Faculty of Contemporary Business Administration, and the Graduate School of Contemporary Business Administration, and will celebrate its 3th anniversary in November 1.

President Yutaka Tsujinaka says that he would like to further upgrade the philosophy so far toward the 2026th anniversary of 100 and show a vision to survive difficult times toward the next 100 years.

Toyo Gakuen University has the following principles.

・ Universities that respond to changes in the times
・ University to raise international people
・ A caring university

The idea is supported by the founding spirit of the founder, Nao Uda, who has continued to convey to students throughout his life.Jikyo Yasumi is a passage of the Five Classics "I Ching" that has been handed down in China, and its meaning is "to continue to make efforts without slackening." The founder's desire to "become a person who grows and changes society by working hard every day to learn" is still alive at Toyo Gakuen University.

Now that the world situation is changing drastically, I asked President Yutaka Tsujinaka what he wants to convey to his students when he takes office, and what kind of human resources are "international people = global human resources" that Toyo Gakuen University advocates.

President Yutaka Tsujinaka :
I want students to have a "preparation" for the world because it is an era of rapid change. "Kamae" may be rephrased as "thinking".

Just as if you grow up in Japan, you see things through the frame of Japan, it is the same in other countries, such as the United States, China, and Russia. Therefore, it is important to understand the perspectives and backgrounds of the neighbors, the countries next to each other, and the perspectives and backgrounds of each, and to develop your own ideas in the comparison, without thinking that the place where you are is absolute.

"Global human resources" does not mean that you only need to be able to speak English. At Toyo Gakuen University, "learning English" is one of its features, but the other pillar is liberal arts education.I see education as "a common material needed for mutual dialogue."

For example, is it a mass of world-class academic disciplines such as classics and languages? In my specialty of political science, I can exchange opinions about classical philosophies and ideas such as Rousseau and Machiavelli, share facts such as history and statistics, and deepen dialogue with people in these worlds. We believe that global human resources are those who are educated and who can interact normally with the world without prejudice.

When I hear one of the university's philosophies, "a university that responds to changes in the times," I have to create something special that is original and innovative that will change the world. As you may think, the fact that you can speak and understand Japanese is already original from a global perspective.

I want students to understand that the existence of themselves is original in the first place. And if you can express what you want to do and what you think, it will lead to both social and global originals and innovative things.

To that end, I want you to find a place where your sensitivity resonates through various experiences. If you already have something you want to do and are aiming for something, you can go for it.

However, it is also true that many people are wondering about their future and goals in this information-filled era.Looking at students, there are moments when the brilliance of their eyes changes when they come into contact with new experiences and ideas in the field of society where things move, not on the desk. Therefore, I would like you to act to find a place to be your field and experience the scales falling from your eyes.

Toyo Gakuen University is located in the center of Tokyo where you can witness the fields of culture, economy, and politics of Japan, and the growth points. I can. Also, as a university that advocates good care, we also offer many opportunities for students to find their own field.

"Jikyo Yasushi" is the founding spirit of our university, but if you interpret it in my own way according to the present era, you can divide the rice fields and hold a bow like the character "彊". I think it has become a more important era to protect the rice fields, find a field that will be your own rice field, and strengthen it, that is, deepen it.

In order to interact with people around the world, it is necessary to be able to express yourself in the field of interest as well as to know the other person and yourself from various perspectives and objective comparisons.

Toward the coming 100th anniversary, while deepening dialogue with many people related to this university, such as students, faculty members, parents and graduates, we will put together the energy and bring Toyo Gakuen University to a better place. I think that is my role.I hope I can move forward with you while learning.
