In recent years, many universities have established data science faculties and departments one after another. This is because as AI and digitization accelerate, societal demands for data science personnel shortages are growing. However, even though data science is a single word, the knowledge and skills required are wide-ranging.There are a wide variety of fields, from information processing technology and data analysis similar to science and engineering to creative fields that create new goods and services. Each university offers a variety of educational programs, each unique in its own way to meet the needs of students and society.
In the Department of Data Science, in the first and second years, students systematically learn the basics of business administration and data science as a whole, and also select and assemble subjects in data science according to their desired fields and goals.Furthermore, from the third year onwards, students set their own themes and proceed with their research. It is characterized by being able to learn programming at the science level, as well as machine learning and deep learning, even though it belongs to the humanities department of business administration.
Asia University's data science curriculum has already been developed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for mathematics, data science, and AI education as an educational program that develops practical skills to solve problems using mathematics, data science, and AI. The literacy level and application basic level of the program certification system, MDASH (Approved for Mathematics, Data science and AI Smart Higher Education) are accredited.
While many universities have established faculties and departments as information systems or science and technology departments, there are few examples of newly established humanities departments in business administration with a curriculum structure at the applied basic level. The Department of Data Science at Asia University's Faculty of Business Administration, which incorporates elements of science in the Faculty of Business Administration, which has a mathematical foundation among humanities faculties, also matches the social needs of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to promote STEM education. In terms of science subjects, we place more emphasis on the student's motivation to learn rather than their level at the entrance stage, and we have established a system in which students can receive support according to their level and needs even after taking entrance exams for liberal arts subjects.
