Since 2017, Kobe Shoin Women's Gakuin University has held a calligraphy contest mainly for high school students in the Kansai region.Even today, when there are fewer opportunities to hold a brush, the Keihanshin area still has a large population involved in calligraphy compared to other areas. In addition, Hyogo Prefecture, where the university is located, produced many calligraphers who had a great influence on post-war calligraphy, and Kobe, in particular, is still a thriving city of calligraphy today.
From the 2023 academic year, the Department of Japanese Language and Culture, Faculty of Letters will open a “Calligraphy Course” as a place to learn calligraphy more professionally. In addition, in commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the founding of the school, this year we will hold this competition as a major project of the school. For high school students who study calligraphy, this will be a great opportunity to demonstrate their daily achievements, so please do not hesitate to apply.
