Tamagawa University's correspondence education program started in 1950 as the first correspondence education program in Japan that allowed students to obtain an "Elementary School Teacher's License."
To date, we have produced over 26 students, and many more students are currently studying here.

Many graduates are active in the field of education, and the network they built at Tamagawa continues after graduation, providing great support to fellow alumni.

The curriculum is structured around three pillars: "school education," "lifelong learning," and "social education," allowing students to study education in a broad range of fields.
We have shifted from simply acquiring credits to a "skill-based" approach that focuses on developing practical skills, and we provide high-quality education through meticulous learning guidance.

[Become a teacher without attending classes: A new approach to teacher training pioneered online]

Our university introduced a new media-based teacher training program in April 2026, allowing students to acquire the necessary teaching licenses through "media-based classes (online/on-demand schooling)" and "textbook study (self-study)." The teaching licenses covered are: Kindergarten Teacher (Type 1 & 2), Elementary School Teacher (Type 1 & 2), Junior High School Teacher (Type 1 & 2 - Social Studies), High School Teacher (Type 1 - Civics), and High School Teacher (Type 1 - Geography & History). This new form of learning allows students to pursue teaching licenses from anywhere in the country without having to commute to campus.

On the other hand, for those who prefer face-to-face learning, we will continue to offer in-person classes (schooling). We will lead the way in teacher training by supporting each individual's learning style.

[A comprehensive support system to alleviate anxieties and worries]

At our university, we provide a safe and supportive learning environment thanks to our faculty with extensive practical experience and a variety of support systems.

We provide strong support for daily learning through "WebTAMA," a student support system that allows students to ask questions to faculty and staff and apply for various schooling and subject examinations, and "Edu Track," an educational support system equipped with video content to assist with learning methods guidance and report writing.
Furthermore, our teacher certification course offers numerous preparatory courses for teacher recruitment examinations, providing thorough support until you achieve your goal.

In education, both theory and practice are essential. At our university, visiting professors, including kindergarten principals, elementary, junior high, and high school principals, and those with experience in educational administration, provide instruction. Furthermore, active professionals are in charge of training for specialized fields such as museum curators and librarians.
We provide high-quality education through meticulous learning guidance that leverages the extensive practical experience of each instructor.

① The mathematics teaching license is only available to those who hold a teaching license for another subject at the junior or senior high school level, or a license for an adjacent school level (only mathematics for junior and senior high schools), and who have at least three years of teaching experience.
② Only those holding a teaching license for elementary, junior high, high school, or special needs schools (schools for the blind, deaf, or those with intellectual disabilities) are eligible to take the course to become a school librarian teacher.
