SMITH & MOTORS Co., Ltd., a venture from the University of Tokyo under the TRUST SMITH Group, which creates innovation by utilizing the latest technology in the fields of cutting-edge AI, mathematical algorithms, and robotics, is a video in collaboration with Deep Consulting Co., Ltd. In "Mosaic AI (Masking AI)" that removes personal information inside, we have developed a technology for recognizing a person's face when wearing a mask.This makes it possible to create data that is easy to use not only for images from conventional drive recorders, but also for photographs and videos that reflect personal information in offices and commercial facilities.

 In recent years, in addition to the revision of the Personal Information Protection Law, the importance of protecting privacy is increasing more than ever. "Mosaic AI" developed by the TRUST SMITH group automatically applies mosaics to information related to personal information in photos and videos to protect privacy in photos and videos.Until now, it has been used by automobile manufacturers and insurance companies that handle video from drive recorders, and media that open the video to the public.

 However, due to the influence of the coronavirus, while the mask wearing rate of people walking outdoors continues to be high, it was difficult for conventional algorithms to recognize the face of a person wearing a mask.

 Therefore, SMITH & MOTORS learned a huge amount of video data when wearing a mask, and succeeded in realizing face recognition of a person whose face is mostly covered with a mask with high accuracy.

 A unique library that utilizes the latest technology can process high-precision images with a large amount of information at high speed, and can achieve 91% accuracy for face mosaics and 96% accuracy for drive recorders.In addition, with our unique algorithm, it is possible to mask images up to about 30 fps for face masking and up to about 20 fps for license plate masking in real time.Furthermore, since it is possible to provide a PC for masking execution equipped with this algorithm and implement it on the client's local network, the risk of information leakage to the outside can be suppressed and personal information can be reliably protected.

 With this technological development, in addition to the video data of the drive recorder that was used in low-traffic situations, AI will be used even in scenes where the flow of people wearing masks is intense, such as video data in offices and commercial facilities. Mosaic processing is possible automatically.In addition, even after the coronavirus has converged, this technology is expected to play an active role for a long period of time as a function that can be used in medical settings where masks are always expected to be worn.
