A research group led by Associate Professor Masao Miyazaki and Professor Tetsuro Yamashita of the Faculty of Agriculture, Iwate University, studied the mechanism of cat rope tensioning behavior through odors, and cats that smelled "cat urine extract" were on the spot. I found that I was leaving. This discovery is expected as a new technology to prevent cat manure damage by presenting "cat urine extract" to places where stray cats are in trouble due to manure damage and leaving the invading stray cats.

With the increase in the number of cats raised, the damage caused by free-range cats and stray cats to manure in children's parks and residential areas has become a major social problem.Against this background, in recent years, many repellents and ultrasonic repellents for cats' disliked odors have been sold at home improvement stores, but the effects may vary from individual to individual, and cats will become accustomed to using them several times. There are some, and there is a problem that sufficient effects cannot be obtained.

Therefore, the research group presented the urine of a separate cat in the territory of the cat, and the cat passing by sniffed the urine, and after sniffing the urine, " Overmarking = Marking other animals' markings so that they cover their urine. ”I discovered that I would leave as it was, and focused on that.By using "cat urine extract" prepared by removing urea, which is the raw material of ammonia, from cat urine, it has the effect of attracting cats and cats that smell "cat urine extract" have feces and urine. It was found that it has the two effects of leaving without leaving the cat near.

The results of this research are different from the current mainstream cat repellents and ultrasonic repellents, which are being developed with the concept of presenting what cats dislike and expelling cats that have entered the premises, humans and stray cats. It can be said that this is an epoch-making new measure to prevent fecal and urine damage in consideration of the coexistence of cats.In the future, the research group hopes to develop research from the perspective of product development while investigating in detail the difference in effect depending on the amount of urine extract presented, stability, and duration of action.
