Fukuoka University and Suntory Kyushu Sales Headquarters will be giving away three beer coupons to graduating students this spring. The graduates entered the school during the coronavirus pandemic, and had no entrance ceremony, and had a hard time participating in club/circle activities and socializing in seminars and laboratories.
According to Fukuoka University, approximately 4,100 students will be eligible. The university will notify all students via email, and coupons will be distributed to students who apply on the 18th, the day before the graduation ceremony. The beer was a Suntory product, and one bottle was given to each graduate and the other two bottles were prepared to be given as gifts to people the graduates had helped.
The students in question enrolled in April 2020, when the new coronavirus outbreak began. Around this time, the government declared a state of emergency, and local governments such as Fukuoka Prefecture called on people to refrain from going out and holding gatherings. As a result, students started their university lives by staying in their homes or student apartments.
Fukuoka University has planned this giveaway to honor the university's pride in the students who, through trial and error, have searched for new ways to interact while face-to-face interactions are restricted due to the coronavirus pandemic. He said that he would like the graduates to "express their gratitude by giving beer to the people who have helped them."
