Ikenobo Gakuen Educational Corporation held a board of directors meeting and decided to stop recruiting students for Ikenobo Junior College until the 2024 academic year. Due to a decline in the 18-year-old population and a growing preference for four-year universities, the number of students remaining has remained significantly below capacity, and the educational system will be maintained until all students enrolled in 4 graduate.

According to Ikenobo Junior College, there were only 250 students enrolled in the 2022 academic year and 198 in the 2023 academic year, out of a capacity of 133 for the Department of Environmental Culture and Early Childhood Care, which was a major problem. As the 18-year-old population is expected to decline further in the future, it has been determined that it will be difficult to continue.

Ikenobo Junior College was established in 1952 in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City, under the leadership of Ikenobo, the head of the flower arrangement school. It is known for its educational policy that emphasizes traditional Japanese culture, including making flower arranging a compulsory subject, and has produced many graduates, but it has been unable to resist young people's preference for four-year universities and away from flower arranging.

The shortage of students enrolling at junior colleges is a nationwide trend, and while some are trying to survive by switching to coeducational or four-year schools, many are being forced into dire financial straits.

The number of students who went on to junior colleges in Kyoto Prefecture was 2018 in 1,832, but this has fallen to 2022 in 26.5, a decrease of 1,346%.As a result of this, Kyoto Seibo Jogakuin Junior College in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City closed in 2018, and Otani University Junior College in Kita Ward, Kyoto City closed in 2021.Ryukoku University Junior College in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City, has also announced that it will suspend student recruitment from 2025 onwards.
