The international research group of Kyoto University, National Astronomical Observatory, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, and Japan Atomic Energy Agency, including Professor Yosuke Yamashiki of Kyoto University Graduate School of Survival Studies, is a super flare that occurs in solar stars. The effect of radiation was calculated.

Explosive phenomena that occur in stars such as the sun are called flares, and those that occur hundreds to thousands of times more than normal flares are called super flares.According to Kyoto University, the research group created a research model that takes into account the frequency of flare occurrence in stars and the atmospheric composition of planets, and based on this, the effects of radiation on life with radiation resistance comparable to that of humankind. Was calculated for each planet.

As a result, it was found that it does not affect life in an environment with a high concentration atmosphere of around 1 atm like the earth, but Mars is larger because the atmosphere is thin even though it is farther from the sun than the earth. It turned out to be affected.

The exoplanet "Proxima Centauri b", which is the closest to the solar system, has been noted as being within the habitable range of life from the stars, but it is expected that the cosmic dissipation of the atmosphere will be 70 times higher than that of the earth. From this, it was clarified that high-energy radiation reaches the surface of the planet, and even a flare of a scale that occurs about once a year is a fatal exposure amount.

The research group finds it difficult to assess life as habitable unless gas is continuously emitted from inside the planet or a magnetic field is formed.
