A research group of the Nagoya City Fire Department and Nagoya Institute of Technology estimated the onset process of heat stroke in the elderly using the heat stroke carrier big data.It was confirmed that the carrier may have a significant decrease in thermoregulatory function, and that heat stroke accompanied by dehydration is caused by the accumulation of dehydration for several days.
The number of emergency transport personnel due to heat stroke is increasing year by year.The research group has developed a technology for estimating the amount of sweating and body temperature rise by large-scale simulation, and started joint research with the Nagoya City Fire Department in July 2020.As part of this, we analyzed the mechanism by which elderly people develop heat stroke with the cooperation of Yokohama National University.In previous studies, there were many unclear points about the process by which elderly people develop heat stroke at home.
The research group analyzed big data provided by the Nagoya City Fire Department. Of the 2019 heat stroke carriers in Nagoya City in 2020 and 2,513, 65 people aged 1,299 and over were selected for analysis.Of these, 55.5% had heat stroke at home.
The core body temperature and sweating were reproduced by a large-scale numerical simulation from the carrier's body temperature (under the armpit), location of occurrence, transportation date and time, and meteorological data, and compared with the actual body temperature during transportation.As a result, it was scientifically supported that more than 3% of the elderly who develop heat stroke do not sweat, resulting in a marked decrease in thermoregulatory function or severe dehydration.In addition, heat stroke accompanied by dehydration was suggested to be caused by the accumulation of dehydration not only on the day of transportation but also for several days from the expected amount of sweating per day.
From this result, even if you do not feel the heat or thirst, it is necessary to take active measures against heat using a thermometer (room temperature meter) and diligent hydration, and it is possible that the person is not aware of it. It is pointed out that it is important to call from others based on objective data because of its nature.
