With the spread of the Internet in recent years, creative activities (co-creation) through online cooperation have become popular.A research team led by Professor Kazuhiro Ueda, a graduate student at the University of Tokyo, analyzed co-creation patterns in the online community and clarified the roles played by the peripheral members and the core members.

When the co-creation relationship between participants in creative activities is visualized as a network (co-creation network), it is said that the core members and peripheral members of the co-creation network differ in terms of importance. It has been reported that peripheral members play an important role because they often create original content. However, previous studies have shown that core and peripheral members may play different roles in co-creation behaviour.

This time, we analyzed co-creation patterns in three online communities boasting a large number of participants: "SCP-Wiki", "GitHub", and "Idea Storm".First, the participants of each online community are classified into two types: core members and peripheral members. As a result of analyzing the co-creation relationship between the participants, the peripheral members in the co-creation network mainly played the role of creating original contents and contributed to increasing the "amount" of creative works. On the other hand, the core members mainly played a role in modifying the contents created by others, and contributed to improving the "quality" of the creation.

Studies show that participants play different roles depending on their position in the network and have different influences on the "quantity" and "quality" of their creations, and co-creation patterns among participants. Was clarified. The results of this research are expected to contribute to the creation of organizations in the real world.
