Doshisha University Technology, Enterprise and International Competitiveness Research Center (ITEC) has announced research on the productivity and working environment of Japanese software engineers. It has become clear that Japanese software engineers are not only less satisfied with their work, but also have long working hours and are in a poor working environment.

The research name is "Study on the effect of improving productivity and treatment of Japanese software engineers: using the framework of international comparative analysis with Asian and Western countries".It was conducted for the purpose of internationally comparing the mental productivity and working conditions of software engineers and clarifying how productivity and working conditions are determined. The survey was conducted in five countries: Japan, the United States, Germany, France, and China.A questionnaire survey was conducted from 5 to 2015 for individual software engineers.

In addition, a subjective productivity index is created from questions related to work productivity such as "I can demonstrate my abilities", and work satisfaction from questions about work satisfaction such as "I am satisfied with my current job". Created an index. As a result, Japan was the lowest among the five countries in both indicators.

Professor Yoshifumi Nakata of ITEC, who was in charge of the research, said, "The working environment surrounding Japanese software engineers needs immediate improvement in terms of both long working hours and mental labor production that does not match it." Point out.
