In 1875, Doshisha English School, the predecessor of Doshisha University, was founded by Joseph Hardy Neesima. We have practiced conscience education with the educational principles of "Christianity," "liberalism," and "internationalism."We develop human resources who have the virtue of loving the truth and making humanity serious, the spirit of respecting individuality and valuing each person, and the ability to grasp the world from a broad perspective.Starting with the establishment of new faculties and majors, we are actively working on the development and enhancement of advanced education and research systems, and the reorganization of organizations. With two school sites (Imadegawa and Kyotanabe), the Imadegawa school site has five important cultural properties, and the arts and cultural traditions of the ancient city give the university a unique presence.
