The Kamiya Taku Laboratory of the Faculty of Human Health, Kansai University has produced a video that reproduces the rules of the birth of volleyball in 1895, which can also be used as a teaching material for physical education in secondary education.

At Kamiya Laboratory, whose research theme is "sports pedagogy," there are many students who want to become teaching professions, so we have produced a video that can be used as a teaching material for physical education in secondary education to learn the origins of ball games. The curriculum guidelines for junior high school (announced in March 2017, Chapter 3, Section 2, "Health and Physical Education") describe "understanding the characteristics and origins of ball games" as the content of learning, and what is the fun of competing for victory or defeat? Separately, I decided to think about the significance of learning the history and background of sports by making a video that reproduces the old rules of volleyball.

By the way, the rules of volleyball in 1895 included "9 innings", "dribbling", "pass OK on serve", "no limit on the number of people", "attacks using obstacles", etc. (Reference: "Latest sports important" Nori ”Taishukan Shoten).

Professor Kamiya says, "Thinking about the past (establishment) of ball games is an education required by the national curriculum guidelines, but there is a fact that the teaching methods are not sufficiently accumulated compared to the teaching of practical skills." He pointed out that there is also a way to experience the origin of sports on their own, and showed in the video. In addition, this video production has the aspect of proposing a new educational method that learns the origin by moving the body instead of classroom lectures, and Professor Kamiya said, "For students who have a teacher's license in junior high school and high school, I really want you to know. "

The "1895 Volleyball Reproduction Video" is available on the official YouTube channel of Kansai University's Kamiya Taku Laboratory.
