Since March 2017, a group of Professor Junko Tanaka of the Graduate School of Medical, Dental and Health Sciences, Hiroshima University has been conducting a large-scale serum epidemiological survey in collaboration with an international joint research project of the University of Health Sciences of Cambodia, the Ministry of Health of Cambodia, WHO, and CDC. And started a hepatitis B virus (HBV) status survey of children and mothers throughout Cambodia.

 In the survey, 5 pairs of children over 2,520 years old and their mothers were randomly selected from regions and villages all over Cambodia according to a certain procedure, and HBsAg test and questionnaire survey were conducted, which is one of the main infection routes. Elucidate the actual situation of a certain mother-to-child transmission.

 WHO is working in each country with the goal of eradicating viral hepatitis, which is estimated to infect 2030 million people worldwide by 4.This is the first time that a nationwide HBV infection rate survey has been conducted in Cambodia for mothers and children, and it is expected that effective infection control measures will be implemented through a large-scale epidemiological survey.

 Professor Tanaka said, "Through this survey, I hope that by successfully arranging preventive measures for hepatitis B mother-to-child transmission, which has been almost successful in Japan, it will be possible to prevent hepatitis B mother-to-child transmission in Cambodia. I am enthusiastic.
