Professor Kazuhiro Watanabe and Associate Professor Shingo Miyawaki of the Department of Joint Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences, Gifu University have started a cloud funding project "I want to train veterinarians through surgical training without sacrificing animals."We will produce an organ model developed at Gifu University for the realization of surgical training without using live animals. The target is 500 million yen. Donations will be solicited through "READY FOR" until 6:15 on June 23th (Wednesday).
Students who aspire to be veterinarians learn "surgery" to treat animals. However, it is not desirable to use living animals (living bodies) from the viewpoint of animal welfare. Therefore, the acquisition of surgical techniques at the university is centered on classroom lectures, video viewing, and surgical tours, and practical training such as incision and suturing is insufficient.Models that replace existing living organisms are extremely expensive, and there are few models that can be used to learn surgical techniques such as incisions and sutures.
Therefore, Gifu University is the first in the world to develop a dog organ model that allows each student to repeatedly learn practical training in surgery.Through crowdfunding, we will raise production costs for students to actually use this organ model.Regardless of whether or not the target amount has been achieved, the collected funds will be used for material costs and production costs for silicon organ models that can be used in surgical training.
Gifu University says that by disseminating this organ model nationwide, it will contribute to improving the quality of veterinary education and veterinary medicine in Japan.
