The US Advancement Research Institute conducted a survey of online utilization in the 2023 entrance examination for national, public and private universities nationwide. We have now published some of the results. The survey was conducted from September 2022 to 9, 1 through University Journal Online, and 26 universities responded.

According to the survey, 2023% of foreigners/international students selected for 27.8 entrance examinations used online, followed by 24.1% for graduate school entrance examinations, and 23.7% for comprehensive type selections. This was followed by designated school recommendation (16.1%), other recommendation (10.4%), open recruitment recommendation (9.9%), transfer admission selection (9.3%), and the lowest was general selection (7.1%).About 10% of the universities selected will use online depending on the spread of the new coronavirus infection, and it can be seen that they are firmly prepared for the situation.

When the three entrance examinations with online usage rates exceeding 20% are aggregated by school type, the utilization situation differs greatly.Comprehensive selection is 3% for national, 18.8% for public, and 14.3% for private, and although it is an entrance examination for high school students, it is used not only by private universities but also by national and public universities.Foreigners and international students are selected for national universities at 25.1%, public universities at 42.1%, and private universities at 7.3%.Regarding the selection of graduate school students, online utilization of national universities is quite high, with 28.9% of national universities, 65.1% of public universities, and 26.5% of private universities. On the other hand, only private universities are highly recommended for designated schools at 14.1%, and private universities are expected to lead the online use of designated school recommendation, mainly for comprehensive selection, as an entrance examination for high school students.

Next, regarding the “things that universities feel are important” in the use of online entrance examinations, 59.9% answered “from the perspective of securing students who live far away” and “from the perspective of financial and time efficiency for examinees.” (43.9%), the percentage of the two items is particularly high, and the item "From the perspective of securing students from afar" is felt to be the most important item among all items regardless of school type.
Regarding the two items, “From the perspective of financial and time efficiency of examinees” and “From the perspective of promoting university DX”, the figures for national universities are particularly high, indicating a high level of awareness. Compared to other items, the number for “from the perspective of improving the efficiency of entrance examinations” is low at 2%, and there are few universities that think it is important to improve efficiency by using online.

On the other hand, when asked about “what they feel uneasy about,” the items with the highest anxiety exceeding 50% were “anxiety about the Internet connection environment” (82.6%), “anxiety about cheating” (76.3%), and “fairness.” Anxiety about sexuality” (64.0%).In addition, most of the items were answered by national, public, and private schools, in that order. The university seems to have become accustomed to using online conference systems such as Zoom in classes, but when it comes to entrance exams mainly for high school students, there is still a great deal of anxiety about the Internet connection environment. In order to ensure fairness, some universities are conducting web interviews not only for applicants who cannot come to the university, but also for all applicants, including applicants who are currently attending the university. It seems that the high schools sending out students will also need to guide them so that they can get used to online interviews.
