Hokkaido University ranked 2023nd in the world in the overall ranking of the British higher education magazine "THE Impact Ranking 22", and has been the top university in Japan for four consecutive years.
According to Hokkaido University, THE Impact Ranking ranks universities around the world by evaluating their efforts against climate change, gender equality, health and welfare measures, etc. within the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In 2023, 91 schools around the world, including 1,705 schools in Japan, participated, and 78 schools around the world, including 1,591 schools in Japan, were included in the overall ranking.
The ranking is based on the total score of the top three scores of each university's SDGs calculated for each SDGs, the mandatory item "Let's achieve goals through partnerships" and the other scores.
Hokkaido University ranks 68th for “Zero Hunger”, 95th for “Safe Water and Toilets”, 45th for “Industry "Let's protect the affluence of land" ranked 27th, "Let's protect the affluence of land" ranked 17th, and "Let's achieve goals through partnerships" ranked 53rd.
