Tokyo Institute of Technology has appointed Dr. Mary Boytec, a senior scientist in the Department of Astrobiology and Planetary Sciences at the US Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), as a special assistant to the president and executive director of the Institute for Earth and Life Sciences.
According to the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Dr. Boytec has long been involved in running NASA's key programs as a global authority on astrobiology. In addition to being familiar with the research situation in the United States, it also has an extensive network with overseas institutions and researchers.
As a special assistant to the president, we will establish the world's highest level education and research environment, build a network with excellent researchers from around the world, and promote cooperation with overseas institutions.
The Institute for Earth and Life Sciences, which serves as the executive director, is a research institute that gathers experts in planetary science and life science from all over the world to explore the origins of the earth and life.More than half of the researchers are foreigners, and the official language of the institute is English. At the same time, each researcher is independently conducting research instead of the course system, which is the standard research system in Japan.
Dr. Boytec will be the driving force behind the system reforms that have already started, aiming to make the Institute for Global Life Sciences a top-level research facility open to the world.
Dr. Boytec said, "It is a great honor to have the opportunity to work at an institution conducting interdisciplinary research."
