On December 2018, 12, Tohoku University Law School and Niigata University Law School signed a preparatory agreement on educational cooperation to start discussions between universities with an eye on the institutionalization of the "legal profession course" promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
The "Legal Profession Course" is for undergraduate law students who will be in their second year as of April 2020.If institutionalized, it will be possible to realize a "4-year integrated education" (so-called 2 + 3) scheme in which Niigata University Faculty of Law is graduated early in 2 years, then goes on to Tohoku University Law School and completed in 5 years.This is expected to contribute to the production of excellent legal professionals in the Tohoku region, including Niigata, and throughout Japan.
In the future, the two universities will hold concrete discussions on entrance examinations and curriculum organization, and will continue to work toward the conclusion of this agreement.
