Associate Professor Tomomi Hattori of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Shizuoka Institute of Science and Technology was selected by the Hamamatsu Electronic Engineering Encouragement Association for the 2018 Takayanagi Research Encouragement Award. The research to reduce the torque pulsation generated when driving a permanent magnet type synchronous motor was evaluated, and a certificate of merit and a research grant were presented at the award ceremony held in Naka-ku, Hamamatsu City.

According to Shizuoka Institute of Science and Technology, the torque pulsation generated when driving a permanent magnet type synchronous motor used in industrial equipment and home appliances leads to vibration and noise, which makes people uncomfortable. We have developed a new control method to reduce this and succeeded in suppressing the vibration amplitude to 10%.

Furthermore, by improving the coil of the motor, we have also developed a more efficient motor and made it possible to reduce power consumption. These studies were highly evaluated by the Hamamatsu Electronic Engineering Encouragement Association.

The Takayanagi Research Encouragement Award is an award established to recognize the achievements of Kenjiro Takayanagi, an emeritus professor at Shizuoka University, who has led research in television technology in Japan and is known as the "father of television." The researchers who were there are commended every year.

In 2018, Professor Hoshiko Hoshi of Hamamatsu University School of Medicine's Center for Optical Tip Medical Education and Research won the Takayanagi Award, and Associate Professor Hattori received the Takayanagi Research Encouragement Award.Associate Professor Satoshi Ito of the Faculty of Engineering, Toyama Prefectural University, Associate Professor Tetsuya Sengoku of the Faculty of Engineering, Shizuoka University, and Assistant Professor Naoki Honzo of the Faculty of Medicine, Hamamatsu University School of Medicine were selected.
