According to past studies, school age in elementary and junior high schools is a time to recognize one's sexuality, and sexual minority children are vulnerable to bullying and school refusal.Against this background, the group of Shizuoka Institute of Science and Technology and Yamanashi Eiwa College conducted a national survey on support for sexual minority children in randomly selected elementary schools nationwide.
Analyzing the results of the 874 schools that responded, (1) "There are faculty members and school counselors who can talk to children about their concerns about sexuality" was 79%, but "A place where children can talk about sexuality" 24% of schools are known to have teachers and staff, and (2) 86% of schools share consideration of sexual minorities regarding attitudes and behaviors among teachers. , 26% of schools "conduct training sessions for faculty and staff on sexual minorities" and 15% of schools "create guidance for faculty and staff on support and consideration for sexual minorities" It became.
The group has previously conducted a similar national survey in junior high schools.In the future, it is expected that support for children and students with sexual minorities will be enhanced by utilizing the results of these surveys.
