According to the Ministry of Education, Hitotsubashi University has an excellence in education and research in the field of humanities and social sciences, focusing on new faculty members in economics, business administration, accounting / finance, political science / international relations in strategic priority areas. It was highly praised for the fact that it has formulated specific strategies for strengthening research capabilities, such as arranging them.
In addition, there are plans to revitalize cross-disciplinary and social issue-specific research at graduate schools, the introduction of a "dual seminar system" that combines seminars in English for human resource development, and global standards based on the acquisition of AACSB, which is an international certification for business education. Attention is also being paid to efforts such as education corresponding to the above, and the establishment of the Faculty of Social Data Science.
Hitotsubashi University has set numerical targets such as increasing the number of researchers by 60 in priority areas, increasing the number of English achievements to 300 or more, and increasing income by 20 billion yen by revising tuition fees and increasing donations.
In 2016, the designated national university corporations accepted applications from universities that met the requirements of the Ministry of Education, and seven national university corporations nationwide applied.With the addition of Hitotsubashi University, all seven schools have been designated.
