Hitotsubashi University announced plans to establish a new faculty and graduate school of social data science (tentative name) in 2023.It is said that this will be the first attempt in Japan with the aim of establishing a new field of education and research in the field of data science from the perspective of social science.
According to Hitotsubashi University, the Faculty of Social Data Science has an enrollment capacity of 60 people.As the digital reform of society progresses, we aim to develop leaders who can make proposals for business innovation and solving social issues by utilizing the data accumulated in the field of business and government.
The Graduate School of Social Data Science has a master's degree enrollment capacity of 21 people.We will develop human resources who have specialized knowledge in statistics, AI (artificial intelligence), programming, etc., can find new value in business by utilizing data, and can contribute to the construction of new social sciences.The doctoral program is scheduled to be set up in 2025.
In addition to the basics of studying data science such as mathematics, statistics, information, and programming, the curriculum will study various fields of social science in collaboration with the four existing faculties of Commerce, Law, Economics, and Social Sciences.In addition, learn the application of data science through study abroad and business innovation analysis.
Hitotsubashi University is said to train data scientists from various companies, big data analysts and forecasters at government agencies, financial institutions, think tanks, and statistics researchers.
The contents may change in the future due to the installation plan.
