Kwansei Gakuin University signed an agreement with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Japan in 2006, and introduced the first admission system in Japan to welcome refugees recommended by the office as regular students. Since 2007, a total of 20 people have been accepted.
The purpose of "Meal for Refugees" is to donate a part of the sales to the certified NPO "Refugee Support Association (JAR)" to support refugees staying in Japan.Mr. Tuan Shankai (belonging to the Faculty of Policy Studies in 2013) from Myanmar who used the above-mentioned entrance examination system started in cooperation with the Refugee Assistance Association.Similar activities have spread nationwide and are now being introduced at about 50 universities and high schools.
The Nishimiya Kamigahara Campus offers "Mellow chicken curry and naan set (427 yen)," "Nikujaga with tomato sauce (220 yen)," "Burmese-style mixed udon (372 yen)," and "Bread pudding (174 yen)." 4 yen per meal will be donated to the Refugee Assistance Association.All of these menus are carefully selected from the recipe book "Taste of Hometown Across the Sea," which contains dishes learned from refugees living in Japan.
At the Kobe Sanda Campus, a separate menu will be held from November 11th (Monday) to 25th (Friday).
