In order to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection, sterilization such as wiping with alcohol after use is currently being carried out in hospital examination rooms and meeting places. However, since it takes a lot of labor and time, sterilization with ozone gas has been proposed, but there is no medical evidence for it.

Nara Medical University, which owns a biosafety level XNUMX laboratory and possesses virus culture technology, confirmed the inactivation of the new coronavirus by ozone gas exposure for the first time in the world in collaboration with the MBT Consortium. In addition, the relationship between ozone concentration, exposure time conditions, and ozone inactivation was clarified experimentally.

The research group installed a stainless steel plate in an acrylic ozone-resistant airtight box installed in a safety cabinet and applied cultured new coronavirus cells. The ozonizer (PMDA certified medical device: ozone generator) installed in the box was operated to control and maintain the internal ozone concentration at 1.0 to 6.0 ppm.

The research group says the results show that the new coronavirus can be inactivated under practical ozone conditions.
