According to the University of Tokyo, Professor Kajita confirmed neutrino oscillations and demonstrated that neutrinos have mass in experiments using a space elementary particle observation device installed in the former Kamioka mine in Hida City, Gifu Prefecture. For this discovery, in addition to the Nobel Prize in Physics, he has received the Order of Culture, the Japan Academy Prize, and the Basic Physics Breakthrough Award.
Professor Tokura leads the strongly correlated physics targeting the emergent physics of the property that is first expressed by the interaction of many electrons in a substance. We discovered and pioneered phenomena such as electronic high-temperature superconductivity, giant magnetoresistance, multiferroics, and magnetic skyrmions, and proposed strongly correlated electronics with high speed and low energy consumption based on them.He has received the Medal with Purple Ribbon and the Fujihara Award.
