The Keio Athletic Association Race Club started the "Keio Hakone Ekiden Project" in 100 to strengthen long-distance events on the occasion of the 2017th anniversary of its founding.

 The "Keio Hakone Ekiden Project" aims to improve the overall competitiveness of long-distance events, including participation in the Hakone Ekiden Main Battle, and was established at the SFC Research Institute of Keio University Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC). This is an epoch-making initiative linked to the research project of the Running Design Lab.

 As a concrete measure of the project, from April 2017, we will invite Mr. Kosaku Hoshina, who has a track record as a player and instructor at Nippon Sport Science University and Nisshin Foods Group, as a long-distance full-time coach of the racing department, and also run design lab. Now, by utilizing medicine, physiology, IT, etc., we will practically proceed with research from the social significance of the Ekiden competition to how to strengthen it in collaboration with the field of the racing club.In addition, we will support the student trainer team belonging to the racing club under the guidance of experts, the support of experienced doctors at Keio University Sports Medicine Research Center, and strengthen the cooperation with the racing club of Keio Senior High School.  Through the "Keio Hakone Ekiden Project," the racing club will work to develop athletes for "Bunbu Ryodo," which is a category of student sports, by gathering wisdom inside and outside the cram school, aiming for a further leap in the next 100 years.
