Cedar pollinosis, which is said to affect more than 30% of Japanese people and is now called a national disease.Although methods for improving the constitution by subcutaneous immunotherapy and sublingual immunotherapy have been put into practical use, there have been problems such as the possibility of serious side effects and the need for a long treatment period.
Therefore, the research group has been conducting research and clinical trials of oral immunotherapy using intestinal immunity since 2010.Due to the large number of immune cells in the intestinal tract, oral immunotherapy was expected to be effective in a short period of time.
The simple treatment method of taking capsules was developed in this way.The capsule contains a complex of Sugi antigen and galactomannan, which is a type of polysaccharide, and is taken daily for about 2 months before and during pollen dispersal.
With this treatment method, even if the amount of antiallergic drug was reduced by about 6% compared to the standard treatment, the effect of reducing nasal symptoms and eye symptoms was observed, and the safety was confirmed.
The research group says that it may lead to new treatments that improve allergic constitution, not limited to Japanese cedar pollinosis.
