The research group of Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine and the Graduate School of Informatics of Tohoku University have jointly developed an iPhone application "Tummy Navi" for medical research that measures and records irritable bowel syndrome. The world's first development of an application for measuring and recording irritable bowel syndrome.

Irritable bowel syndrome is a disease in which intestinal motility becomes abnormal due to stress, etc., and symptoms accompanied by abdominal pain, diarrhea, and constipation continue. It is said that about 15% of Japanese adults are affected, and depending on the degree of symptoms, the quality of life (QOL) may be significantly impaired. Since it is not shown, it is a problem that it is considered lightly and the opportunity for proper treatment is lost.In addition, since symptoms occur suddenly in daily life, it is rare to see a medical institution when abdominal pain occurs, and the mechanism of how the symptoms occur is not known in detail.

In "Tummy Navi", you can answer questionnaires about the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome in line with world standards, and easily measure and record autonomic nervous activity that is thought to be related to pathological conditions such as diarrhea and constipation. can.Research participants can investigate the possibility of irritable bowel syndrome by themselves with "Tummy Navi", and if there is a suspicion of irritable bowel syndrome, show the record of "Tummy Navi" to the attending physician. It can be expected to help smooth medical treatment.

This research is the result of interdisciplinary collaboration between the Graduate School of Medicine and the Graduate School of Information Science, and is the first research aimed at clarifying the mechanism of abdominal pain symptoms in daily life.In the future, the company plans to use the questionnaire results and neural activity data collected through "Tummy Navi" to elucidate the onset mechanism of irritable bowel syndrome.
