Yamagata University has established an inkjet development center that applies the widely used inkjet printer technology to new manufacturing.

Inkjet technology is a technology consisting of a head ink process printer. In Europe and the United States, universities have bases for open innovation * in the field of inkjet technology, creating new products, new application development, and new industries through collaboration between companies and industry and academia. On the other hand, in Japan, companies have closed technology as an in-house technology, and universities do not have a base for open innovation. Therefore, there is no cooperation between companies and industry and academia, and the current situation is that the commercialization and new industrialization of inkjet technology is significantly delayed.

Therefore, Yamagata University, which has already developed open innovation in the field of flexible substrate technology and has achieved results, established the inkjet research and development base "Inkjet Development Center" in order to develop it in the inkjet field as well.It will lead a new industry and play a role in contributing to the local community in the area of inkjet printing.

Inkjet ejects tiny droplets with a diameter that is a fraction of the thickness of a hair, allowing you to freely draw fine patterns on the surface of anything. The possibilities for new applications are endless, such as high-speed digital printing, electronic device manufacturing, 3D modeling, and even the creation of living tissue structures using living cells.

At the Yamagata University Inkjet Development Center, we will bring together inkjet-related companies from domestic head makers, ink makers, process makers, and printer makers beyond the boundaries of the organization to collaborate with large-scale industries (about 20 companies are currently planning to participate). ).In the future, we will develop basic technologies for new inkjet applications, theoreticalize and systematize inkjet technologies, develop new applications and create new businesses, and also collaborate with overseas open innovation institutions to provide practical education for students. I will go.

* Open innovation is the collective gathering of knowledge and technology that transcends organizational boundaries when researching and developing new technologies and products.
