 Tohoku University has been the representative institution (representative: Professor Taishi Nishimura, Graduate School of Science) and has implemented the "Volcano Research Human Resources Development Consortium Construction Project" of the "Next Generation Volcano Research and Human Resources Development Comprehensive Project" commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.In this project, 16 universities nationwide, and research and development corporations such as the Geographical Survey Institute of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the Meteorological Research Institute of the Japan Meteorological Agency, the Disaster Prevention Science and Technology Research Institute, and the Industrial Technology Research Institute have established the "Next Generation Volcano Researcher Training Consortium". , Started with a 2017-year plan from 10 last year.

 In addition, universities and research institutes cooperate in this project mainly for graduate master's students to acquire a wide range of knowledge and expertise in volcanology.In addition to major fields of volcanology such as geophysics, geology / rocks, and geochemistry, we also provide volcanology training in active volcanoes in Japan and overseas, advanced volcanic research, and seminars on engineering / social science.

 In the future, the "Next Generation Volcano Researcher Development Consortium" will hold internships where students can learn practically how to deal with natural disasters with the cooperation of local governments.
