With the death of a Sri Lankan woman at the Nagoya Immigration and Immigration Bureau (Nagoya Immigration Bureau), issues surrounding immigration are attracting attention, such as a bill to revise the Immigration Control Law currently being deliberated in the Diet.Meanwhile, students from Ryutsu Keizai University's Faculty of Sociology and Faculty of Law visited the East Japan Immigration Center (Ushiku Immigration) together with Ms. Takako Zenba. The Ushiku Immigration Bureau houses asylum seekers who may be in danger if they return to their home country, as well as people who do not have status of residence due to overstaying. In 2014, a Cameroonian man died, and in 2022, the documentary film "Ushiku" (directed by Thomas Asch) was released, which took up this immigration.

For this tour, we invited Ms. Kimiko Tanaka, representative of the ``Association for Considering the Problems of Ushiku Immigration Camp,'' which has been supporting Ushiku Immigration Detainees for many years. (Professor) and others, I interviewed center staff about the operation of the immigration control center and the living conditions of the detainees.Afterwards, we moved to the Ryugasaki Campus, where a visiting professor who is also a journalist and Mr. Tanaka, who is a leading supporter of detainees, will discuss the state of immigration control, problems with the immigration control law, and the current situation of detainees. bottom.
