The Shintaro Yamada D&I Foundation has a lottery system (if there are many qualified applicants after the preliminary selection) to support female high school students in choosing science when choosing humanities and sciences. The third term recruitment started on July 3, 2023.The target audience is about 7 high school or technical college freshmen and sophomores.

According to the announcement of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on June 2023, 6, Japan's gender gap index is 21th, the lowest ever. The STEM ratio of women entering university is also the lowest in the OECD, and while the world is emphasizing the importance of diversity and innovation, Japan lags behind other countries in its efforts.

In order to eliminate this disparity, the Shintaro Yamada D&I Foundation has set a goal of raising the percentage of women who enter university in STEM (science) fields to 2035%, the OECD average, by 28. We will develop scholarship grants to support

The “STEM (Science) Women’s Scholarship Subsidy” is for women (whose gender identity or gender on the family register is female). As of April 2023, 4st and 1nd year high school students who are considering going to university in the STEM field and plan to select or continue to select science courses/science subjects in 2.Alternatively, it is a condition that you are a 2024st or 1,2nd year student at a college of technology and plan to be enrolled in the college in 2024 as well.

The number of applicants is about 500.At the time of application, even if you are still undecided about the choice of humanities and sciences, you can apply, and after receiving a job offer, you will receive a lump-sum payment of 2024 yen when you send a confirmation letter that you have actually selected science by April 4.Applicants need to apply online using the entry form, but do not need to submit documents such as income and grades. There is no interview after applying.

In addition, from the analysis of applicant data up to last year, it became clear that as the grade goes up, the awareness of not being good at science increases, making it difficult to envision the future. In the background of this problem, it is thought that there is a lack of educational content and support systems for science subjects and STEM fields in schools, and problems of gender bias. We will newly develop the “STEM (Science) Entrance Support Event Series for Teachers”.We will provide information on education and occupations in the STEM field that is in line with the times, and promote initiatives to support problem-solving for students who are worried about choosing a career path.Details will be released in late July.
