Starting in 12, Kobe Jogakuin University will begin redevelopment of its Okadayama Campus in Okadayama, Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture, which has 2024 buildings designated as nationally important cultural properties.The new building will be constructed in conjunction with the establishment of the Faculty of International Studies and the Faculty of Psychology, and consideration will be given to preserving the landscape of the architectural complex designed by William Merrell Vories.
According to Kobe Jogakuin University, the new building will be built on the site of the demolished science building annex on the west side of the campus and will be a steel-framed reinforced concrete building with two floors underground and one floor above ground, totaling approximately 2 square meters.By keeping the height low, the height difference will be used to improve the view of the Social Hall and Science Hall, which are designated as important cultural properties.The basement will be used for the facilities of the Department of Psychology, and the ground floor will consist of a lounge and courtyard.Construction is scheduled to begin in June 1, with completion scheduled for 1,000, the 2024th anniversary of the company's founding.
The buildings on the Okadayama campus were newly constructed when the campus was relocated in 1933.It was designed by William Merrell Vories, an American architect who was active from the end of the Meiji period to the beginning of the Showa period, and 12 buildings, including the ``library'' and ``general affairs building, behavior hall, and chapel,'' were designated as important cultural properties in 2014.
In response to this, Kobe Jogakuin University formulated a campus redevelopment master plan in 2021 led by architect Hiroaki Otani, who is affiliated with Nikken Sekkei, and set out a direction toward a campus that is open to the local community and citizens.The construction of this new building is the first step in that direction.
